Certificates are available for download

Update

For people who have only name/nickname, instead of full name, on the certificate - we will be adding the possibility to download the certificate from the profile page. Before that we will issue a warning about having to change the name, and will regenerate the certificates again. We will see that this regeneration also solves the problems with signatures not showing up, when using some PDF viewers. There is no timeline for when exactly this will happen!

Your new and shiny certificates are available for download again!

Cheers to our never-sleeping engineering team! Maybe they are not human after all?

If you still have issues with the certificate, please answer to this post. If the issue is wrong level of certificate, please double-check the requirements before posting.

Just a comment, perhaps useful for others: my browser - Chrome on Win7 - doesn't render the certificates (pages stay blank); however, after saving the files with .pdf extension, their exquisite beauty is finally exposed in Acrobat :-)

Update on previous comment: now the certificates are correctly and promptly seen in the browser; either something was corrected in the Udacity servers, or the traffic went down (probably...)

Could this link be added in our "Account settings" page, on the website?
It would be easier to reach if we need to show it to someone, as so far we need to be logged on to download a copy.
And as showing often involves proof, carrying the PDF around is not good for this purpose. Seeing one log on his account and download it is, on the other hand.

@Angel - I like your idea, I do think it would be nice to have our "decorations" available through our account page. This is both good for convenience and, as you note, down the road for possible employment and or client "proof".

But for now, you do need to be logged on to your account for your link to work and show your certificate, so I think that could work for you in the meantime.

@CodyHacker I didn't want to be too greedy and ask for a public summary right now, like Pearson etc.. has. For now, not having to peek on the forum and back to the site would make it more professional. Once it's done, I guess it's not too hard to implement the second part with a given user/account #, showing a table (not the actual certificates in pdf..) . i.e. http://www.udacity/certificates/id0066043

When I click on 373, I just get directed to the sign up for the new 373 course.

I'm not doing any more courses until this is resolved.

There has been confusion due to some CS101 students receiving a CS373 email last week indicating certificate regeneration on Sunday April 29th.

See this post on the April forums suggesting more detailed reporting of remaining issues/questions with more information on last week's CS373 email sent to a CS101 student

I've got the same problem. I think this should be related to the field "Real Name" in "User tools -> Edit Profile" which I filled in just with my name (Pasquale in this case) and not with my name and surname. Or with the "Name" field in the Udacity Account Setting. I'll be glad if I could get even my surname on my certificate, if it possible of course. If it's not, I don't mind. I'll stay Udacious for the rest of my time anyway :).

Thank you in advance. P.s.: the same for CS373.

EDIT: For who is interested, have a look here (from an email received by Udacity for the course 373)

...We are aware that there are some problems viewing the signatures with some PDF viewers and that a number of students have requested to change the name shown on their certificate. We will be updating all certificates with the name listed on your account this Sunday (the 29th,) so if you would like yours changed please update your name before then on your account settings page.

Hi, Gundega,

My new, shiny certificate looks great! Thanks so much to everyone at Udacity for getting them online and for the amazing class! I just have one question: My certificate only has my first name on it, and I would like if it could also include my last name. If this is a problem, or I'm asking too much, I'm still very happy with it! But if there's an easy way to change it I will be eternally grateful.

Thank you so much,

Joel

Same here, only my first name displayed. I would really appreciate it if our full names were displayed.

Hi @GundegaUdacity, I answered to the other certificate thread before I saw this one. I downloaded mine (love it, thanks) but it only shows my first name. It shows "Susan" but my full name is "Susan Straub". Please let me know if this can be fixed. Also, in order to avoid this situation in the future, is there something I should do to change my account for the courses I'm taking now? It's the same login I used when taking CS101. Thanks again and I appreciate those hard working engineers you mentioned.

So I figured out that I could change my name in the "Account Settings" when I log in to my classes at Udacity. I've tried to re-generate my certificate, but it doesn't seem to work. I've used different browsers, but I get the certificate with only my first name even if I have to sign in again.

(21 Apr '12, 23:48) Susan Straub Susan%20Straub's gravatar image

I also just have my first name on the certificate... and I did just enter my first name in the Name field when I signed up (err, duh, what was I thinking? I did update my Udacity account and this forum account with my full name but I am also wondering if the certificate can be issued to include my full name?

I really should have thought of this a while back - how else would you know our full names? Perhaps adding a note for that field might help with this in the future ("This is the name we will print on any certificates we issue to you!"

Thanks!

Hi I just found out that my certificate has only my first name on it and no surname. It's my fault that I didn't check it out earlier but is it possible to regenerate it?

Thanks, Alex.

I got my certificate and it says "High Distinction". However, I started taking the class late (at the suggestion of my wife) and wasn't registered yet when the first homework was due, so I got 0/9 for that. If you take the first homework into account I only got 74% right, but if you don't include the first homework, then I got 92% on the homeworks and with 9 right on the final that should be a "Highest Distinction" certificate. The whole reason I took the class now instead of waiting until the April session was because we were told that the lowest homework grade would be dropped. It's not really fair to change the grading rules after the fact, especially when enrollment was allowed after the first homework was due.

The certificate shouldnt be the main reason to take the course...

An to be honest, i dont think that demanding "highest distinction" with 80% right on the exam and late entry is justified at all. Highest distinction should be top 5% or sth in my view and Udacitys rules are already veeeerrry forgiving.

The certificate wasn't the main reason to take the course. And I'm very happy with what I learned and accomplished. But it's not really fair to say grades will be based on one thing and then change that at the end. I know the course doesn't count for college credit or anything other than personal gain, but when you encourage people to enroll by saying "keep in mind that the lowest homework grade will be dropped in computing your final grade". Given that, and what they said was necessary to get "Highest Distinction", I qualified, but didn't receive the correct certificate. Now, whether or not that matches with your personal idea of highest is irrelevant. If I met the qualifications of the class I should receive the correct certificate. My point is, if the requirements to get a certain grade are constantly changing, then the grade doesn't mean much. It's not fair to change the rules after the fact, particularly when they penalize someone for something they couldn't control (I was never given the opportunity to get a score for the first homework - had I been able to complete that homework it would have drastically changed my homework average).

Yes, but the issue is that they changed the grading scheme after the fact. The faq specifically said that one homework wouldn't count.

Also, it is now possible to get "Highest Distinction" with only 6/11 on the final, and 80% in the homework - under the old grading scheme, that would have given you only about 68%.

Could you please, if possible, update the certificate, by adding my name and my surname on it in accordance with the data from my profile.
Thank you in advance!

I always looooove good sarcasm, but this time not so much. :S Maybe cause I still don't have mine correctly, and I can not brag with my highest distinction (and being one of the Udacity pioneers. :)). :P Come on. Natasha is very common name, internationally speaking.

I am sorry to hear that @Natasha. To me, you are also just @Natasha. Maybe you didn't register with you full names? So, we should stop blaming Udacity, they are doing the best they can really. Anyway, many congratulations with your greatest distinction, well done!

Everywhere I am registered with my full name, except on the forum, and I plan to stick to that. Don't get me wrong. Blaming was the last thing I wanted to do. I am very happy to be part of all this. And yes, what Udacity is doing is just GREAT! :) The certificate is just a plus, and if I can have it, why not?! :)
