Congratulations to everyone who completed cs101!
Note added 21 Apr: I'm really sorry for all the troubles with generating the certificates. They should all now be correct and available. See this post for more details.

It's great to finally receive some excellent news on this, thank you for that! I received my nice certificate in good order. It looks like a very fair grading system, I couldn't have thought of any better ones. But apart from the certificates, I think the learning here was just awesome, and that's what counts. @PeterUdacity @UdacityDave Thank you so much! I really appreciate what you have done. I would also like to thank all the people who earned so much karma on the Forum here. I am talking about folks like @fnenu @Velak @jesyspa @forbiddenvoid @elssar @kilaws @JohanG @James Brewer @charlzz @graemeblake @mathprof @dreyescat @Angel @HelloBacon @clair @Mareq @sudha @macjohn @pmoriarty @CodyHacker @Aleksey P @implicit_kno... @Eenvincible @fjordcarver @solarbike @KenavR @thomblake @Elise @1linsanity @Goldsong @Lele @retep and many others. 4
Thanks, Tom! (Incidentally, if it helps your research, I received a 100% on the final, and something like a 98.6% on the homework, so I earned the highest certificate.) 4
@graemeblake Oh yes, I forgot to mention, highest distinction here as well. Hey, it looks like we can actually start the correlation research here already. 2
@Tom Vandenbosch : I agree that one of the pleasures of following this course was the community and the possibility to contribute to mutual learning through questions and answers on the forum. 2
I should be getting highest distinction as well. Base on what I saw in the progress tab and the email grading criteria. But well would need to confirm it only after my certificate is generated. This is so exciting! 7
Thanks for the kudos. Modesty would prohibit my mentioning a 100% score on all homework and tests, including starred problems, and submission today (with Raphael Großmaß) of what we hope will be a winning contest entry. All fine and good, but I had advantages going into the course: time, experience, etc. What I'm really proud of is my karma score, because it represents appreciation from other students I was able to help. I'm not usually a social person, and the forum gave me a social outlet that was addictive fun. I hope my chest thumping hasn't put off too many beginners. I had a great time reconnecting with my inner computer scientist; I hope others felt or will someday feel the same sense of involvement and joy that I did. Thanks to all of you for being part of my process, and for letting me be part of yours. P.S. 'Still waiting for the certificate. They probably ran short of platinum. :-) 2
Thanks Tom, really. I should get highest distinction by the definition, but as I didn't get mine yet, can't tell.. 2
Thanks for the mention @Tom Vandenbosch. Hope the certificates are available soon. 2
Hey guys, pleasure studying with all of you. I did very well in the course (100% HW and Final, star and non-star), but alas, I appear to be one of those receiving the "Your certificate will be available shortly" message from the udacity server. 2
Thank you guys. It was a pleasure learning from all of you and trying to help others whenever I could. I had a great time! Although I'm still waiting for the actual certificate (Your certificate will be available shortly.), I expect a highest distinction. I got a 100% on all the HW and the Final. 2
lol -- all of you -- it was a wonderful experience -- and I think my certificate is lead and has sunk into the void -- though not the Forbidden one! Don't have one yet. 2
Congrats, guys! I agree @clair, that was a wonderful experience, thanks to all! 1
Thank you all. When I try to go to me certificate now, I also get the "Your certificate will be available shortly", but yesterday it was there, and I am happy I actually downloaded it. Maybe they have a very short lifespan on the Udacity server? 4
@kilaws I'm pretty anti-social/shy so it's been quite an experience for me too, and definitely addictive fun! 1
@fnenu Should have included you in the list above as well really, sorry for the confusion, it will be rectified just now. 2
Well, if "being a loner" is anti-social, I guess that lets me in as well. But I make exception with exceptional people...or something like that. 2
@Tom Vandenbosch I wasn't sure whether it was intentional or not. I was hoping it wasn't :) @CodyHacker That's a good way to put it. 2
@fnenu - I've also often told my SO that I'm not antisocial, just highly selective. BTW, congrats on your TA assignment. 1

Hi, 1
I get the same message. AND I AM LOGGED IN (just in case someone thinks it's necessary to tell me). 1
Guess the problem is being created by hal http://www.udacity-forums.com/cs101/questions/66981/certificates/67161 1
Think the udacity people have sorted the problem out by working even on weeekend :) I have mine visible now |

Thanks for this nice and colourful certificate ! This time the robot will not announce a 404 or a server error ! It was worth the wait. I have a suggestion : that the description of the various levels of accomplishment, together with a brief explanation of the syllabus |
|
The certificate of accomplishment for the Intro to AI class (given by Sebastian but through Stanford rather than Udacity) came digitally signed. For now they're fun but not really valuable. In the future certificates like these will start to receive genuine recognition. With that in mind, it would be good if they always get digitally signed by Udacity. That way it will be publicly known that it is impossible to fake them. Yes, "impossible to fake them" is only true in a limited sense. There will be lots and lots of ways to fake them... but it will indeed be true in a precisely proscribed way where someone can say: using Udacity's publicly available key you can verify that my PDF is truly valid. 2
We self-signed the signatures last time around and got a lot of flak for that. We decided it wasn't worth it. Signing the PDFs isn't really a solution to any relevant problem here. All it would prove is that we created a PDF for someone who completed the course who typed in "Peter" into the name field. It doesn't say which Peter in the world completed the course and also doesn't say that the person who completed the course is actually named Peter. In the very near future we'll have solutions to each of these problems. 1
@PeterUdacity 2
I've taught hundreds of online mathematics courses since 1997. When I'm asked how I know that a particular student really did the work in a class, my answer is that someone did all that work, and the student enrolled is probably that person. To do all that work would take ANYONE a long time. But this is not really different than the situation in a regular lecture class. How do I know the student on my roster is the same student sitting in my classroom? I've NEVER checked student IDs, so how would I know? So the situation online or in the classroom is substantively the same! 1
But how do we prove that the certificates we have recieved are actually the real ones and not fake...? |

The certificate page was brought down, to fix issues that were affecting some people and causing them to receive wrong certificates. We blame Hal! 2
@GundegaUdacity : nice to know you are handling that. Beware of blaming Hal too much. It may retaliate one day. Do you have plans to digitally sign the certificates or otherwise use advanced functionalities of the PDF format ? 1
I'm convinced that Hal still has got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission, and wants to help you. 2
Dave Bowman: Hello, HAL. Do you read me, HAL? 1
@GundegaUdacity thanks for the information! However, I do hope Hal can give more honest message about how long it might take than to give us false hope with 'certificate will be available shortly'. This will help both sides so anxious students don't need to keep refreshing to see if it was fixed when it is going to take hours or days and you guys could fix things in more peace. 1
Ancient computer science proverb: Never let a machine know you're in a hurry. 1
Robots are wonderful for more than automation -- they can the blame and not feel bad! 1
I told you! A "man" must be able to achieve a decent living standard from his work for him to give a good service. Can Hal afford to buy a good vintage sintetic oil at least once a month with his salary? Think about that :) |
Oh dear, after all that - wrong grades, wrong names on the certificates, and now "Your certificate will be available shortly". Someone please let Udacity's software developers know that there's an amazing CS / Python training course available, at... Udacity.com!
Where can I find the my certificate?
I have the same problem. Following the link sent by email http://www.udacity.com/account/certificate/Course/cs101/CourseRev/feb2012 I got "Your certificate will be available shortly"
@scuttlebug, @Pasquale Are you logged in (to your Udacity Account)? The link in the eMail is not personalized, it's only processed if Udacity's website recognizes you.
I am logged in to my account but I get "Your certificate will be available shortly." msg
mine too. "Your certificate will be available shortly" T_T
@DcH - if you aren't signed you get redirected to the home page, if you are, you get that message. Suggest you try it yourself before posting. See also here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and more for examples of overgrading, undergrading, someone-else's name, certificate unavailable, certificate faulty, etc.
We've battled Collatz, solved Levenstein unaided in 6 lines of code, and built a freaking search engine I tell you. These "professional" developers better watch their backs! <g>
I'm logged into Udacity, but I do get the "Your certificate will be available shortly". Ah the highs and lows of waiting.
I'm glad for everyone here, I sadly didn't receive anything yet..
I am wondering what is wrong....it is painfully hurtful not to receive one...although skills matter most...we are waiting here
For the highest distinction, are starred questions considered in the homework questions? Because if they aren't my score if plumetting!
I haven't received an email. I'm logged in (even tried it with the 'Account Settings' page open) but http://www.udacity.com/account/certificate/Course/cs101/CourseRev/feb2012 just redirects to www.udacity.com which tells me that my classes are CS101 and CS253.
@elssar yes the highest distinction is for "11 questions (including the 3 starred questions)"
@drgeoff : strange I get the "shortly" message, try to ask someone using the contact form
I am also getting the message "Your certificate will be available shortly."
Seems like more are starting to get their certifications. I have every confidence in Udacity. These are really great people. Afterall, this is beta software. @PeterUdacity and @UdacityDave, thanks so much again for this, it's been great. I'm really enjoying my new courses as I think most of us are. Patience, dear friends, your certs will come! BTW, I'm still getting the message "Your certificate will be available shortly." as well, so I'm trying to follow my own advice ;)
After long waiting, I was able to download my certificate but very disappointed. I got Certificate of Accomplishment instead of with high distinct however I scored 8 correct on final exam and above 75-80% in all homework. Is there any issue on system? will it be corrected?
Hey finally i received my certificate today. Thx a lot to all the Udacity team Especially peter dave and thrun. You guys were amazing and i am now totally hooked. I have signed up for three new courses now.
@PeterUdacity how do we get our real names on the certificates? I've updated Name in the Account Settings with my real name, but the certificate is already generated. Any chance to have the certificate regenerated with the real name? Thanks!
